Eight Dead in Tulare Crash Near Fresno

by Gabriel Dorman on August 9, 2009

The Fresno Bee reports that the driver of a Dodge Neon trying to flee the police crashed into a pickup truck in Tulare County on Saturday afternoon killing eight people, five of which were children. Reports indicate that no one in either vehicle  was wearing seat belts at the time of the Tulare crash. All five children are believed to be from the same family.

California Highway Patrol investigators say that Dinuba police were in pursuit of a stolen Dodge Neon attempting to flee after officers tried to pull the driver over for running a stop sign on East Nebraska Avenue. During the chase, the driver sped through a second stop sign and crashed into a GMC Sierra pickup truck.

All three of the men in the stolen Dodge Neon died at the scene of the Tulare crash. It was unclear as to whether the three men were responsible for stealing the car.
