by Gabriel Dorman on November 13, 2009

Cliffton Polston’s 30 year legacy with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin came to a less than spectacular end on Thursday as he former head of the club plead guilty to stealing more than $114,000 from the club. Clifford “Cliff” Polston plead guilty to one count of grand theft with a sentencing enhancement for stealing in excess of $50,000 from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin.

A great majority of the money Cliff Polston stole from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin came in the form of $75,000 in salary for a fictitious job he created for his wife and $6,323 in unauthorized car allowances. All told, the former Boys & Girls club head stole $114,000.

As part of the plea agreement, Cliff Polston must repay the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin $137,000 plus 10 percent interest from November 2007 out of proceeds of a life insurance policy purchased by the club on his behalf. Polston, 60, must make the payment by November 30 when he is scheduled to return to court for sentencing.

The former head of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin and the 1983 Man of the Year in Tustin faces a potential maximum sentence of 4 years in state prison when he is sentenced on the grand theft charge in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana. For the amount of money he stole from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin, Polston was looking at a potential 20 years prison sentence after trial.
