The Los Angeles Times reports that Andrew Thomas Gallo, the driver of the van that blew through a red light killing Los Angeles Angels’ pitcher Nick Adenhart and two of his friends, Courtney Stewart and Henry Pearson, has been indicted by a grand jury on three counts of murder, hit-and-run, driving under the influence in connection with the April 9 crash.
The charges, which are identical to the ones files by way of criminal complaint by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office just two days after the incident, allows prosecutors to take the case to trial more quickly and keep the case from being delayed.
Gallo is accused of having a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .19% at the time of the acccident. Gallo is also believed to have been driving on a suspended license as a result of a prior DUI conviction. He is scheduled to be arrainged on June 8 and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. Gallo faces up to 54 years in prison if convicted.
FYI: A fourth passenger in the car with Adenhart, John Wilhite, was also injured in the crash.
