Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sergeant Accused of Sexual Assault While On Duty!

by Gabriel Dorman on May 23, 2009

The Los Angeles Times reports that a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sergeant has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman and innappropriately touching two females during traffic stops last year while on duty.

Sgt. Mark Fitzpatrick was arrested Thursday evening and charged in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday with four felony charges including penetration under threat to arrest or deport, sexual battery by restraint and two counts each of false imprisonment by fraud and deceit as well as a misdemeanor count of false imprisonment. Fitzpatrick plead not guilty to all charges.

The charges against Fitzpatrick stem from allegations that he assaulted three women during traffic stops last May in the city of Compton. Prosecutors allege during one stop he threatened the woman with arrest or deportation during the sexual assault.

Once the sheriff’s department received reports about Fitzpatrick’s alleged misconduct, a criminal investigation was started. Now that charges have been filed, Fitzpatrick was been relieved of duty without pay.

He is ordered to return to court for his preliminary hearing on July 6. Fitzpatrick remains free on $245,000 bail.
