The director of a Long Beach state mental hospital was arrested yesterday on suspicion of child molestation. The Long Beach hospital director is charged 35 felony counts of child molestation involving his foster child taking over the course of a 10 year period while they lived in Long Beach.
The Long Beach hospital director arrested for child molestation is identified as 62-year-old Claude Edward Foulk. Claude Edward Foulk is executive director of Napa State Hospital, a state-run mental hospital. On Wednesday, Foulke was arrested at work by Long Beach police.
According to the criminal complaint, the allegations of child molestation against Long Beach hospital director Foulke include 22 felony counts of forcible oral copulation, 11 counts of sodomy by use of force and two counts of forcible lewd act on a child. Prosecutors further added that their were many other victims involved but the statute of limitations prevents them from pursuing cases before 1988.
Specifically, Claude Edward Foulke allegedly molested his foster child from the time the boy was 10 in 1992 through 2003.
An investigation into the matter was triggered when a 40-year-old alleged victim alerted police last year when he found out the Claude Edward Foulke was director of the Long Beach hospital which treats criminals labeled “sexually violent predators.” In September, the Sex Crimes Detail of the Long Beach Police Department initiated an investigation “involving five victims known to the suspect.”
If convicted, Claude Edward Foulke faces a maximum sentence of 280 years in prison. After his arrest, Foulke was terminated from his position as director of the Long Beach hospital.
