The Los Angeles Times reports that a former Bell Police officer pleaded guilty in Federal Court on Friday to sexually assaulting a female motorist at gunpoint during a traffic stop in 2007.
Former Bell Police Department Officer Felciano Sanchez admitted in court that he sexually assaulted a woman during a traffic stop in May 2007. Specifically, Sanchez plead guilty to one count each of deprivation of rights under color of law and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence in which he forced a woman into his police car during a traffic stop, drove her to a location, placed is hand on his service revolver and forced her to give him oral sex.
U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesman Thom Mrozek said prosecutors thought it was particularly important to pursue this sexual assault case against Sanchez because he was police officer. “The message . . . is that this type of behavior will not be tolerated,” he said. “Both prosecutors and investigators will do everything in their ability to investigate, prosecute and incarcerate people who violate their sworn oath to uphold the law.”
The former police officer is scheduled to be sentenced in November in which he is facing a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the sexual assault.
