The Los Angeles Times reports that a man who had been sexually molesting his daughter for nearly two decades and even fathered her three children (technically his grandchildren) was sentenced to 109 years in prison on Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
It all started in Las Vegas when police received a domestic violence call that a man stabbed his girlfriend in a hospital parking lot. However, when police began investigating, what they discovered was that the boyfriend was actually the victim’s father and that he has been sexually molesting his daughter since she was 6 years old. She is now 29. He even fathered his own grandchildren.
For over two decades, Lindolfo Thibes, a martial arts instuctor, threatened to kill his daughter if she told anyone of the abuse and kept her a prisoner at his home. He would monitor her movements with surveillance cameras and beat her severly during moments of paranoid rage.
Relying on DNA evidence, Los Angeles prosecutors were able to confirm the daughters story and prove the abuse and that Thibes was the father and grandfather of her three children, all girls ages 4, 7 and 11. Acting as his own attorney, Thibes argued that his case should have been dismissed on procedural grounds a long time ago. He referred to his trial as a “kangaroo court” and said his conviction was the result of fraudulent evidence and perjured testimony.
Torrance Police Department Detective, Rick Carr, called Thibes “the sickest suspect [he] ever had” in his 29-year career in law enforcement.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the daughter said the abuse began in the mid-80′s when her mother was away working. Thibes would often make her drink and smoke marijuana since she was 8-years-old and would molest her an average of 10 times a week. He would rig the house with surveilance cameras and put a motion detector on her bed that would set off an alarm when she got out of it.
He threated to kill her and said he would “cut off her head” if she ever reported the abuse. The fear of deportation and not being believed also kept her from saying anything.
