The Los Angeles Times reports that a former officer from the Inglewood Police Department has been charged with brandishing a gun and child abuse for having his kids in the car with him while he did it.

Officer Michael Lewis Robinson was charged Wednesday with flashing a firearm at another motorist while driving on the 405 Freeway on March 31, 2008. Prosecutors further allege that Robinson, who was off-duty at the time, had his 6 and 11-year-old children in the car with him at the time of the incident.

Robinson is also charged with one misdemeanor count of obstructing CHP officers during their investigation. Robinson turned himself into the CHP and was released after posting $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on May 15.

As it turns out, according to a department spokesperson, Robinson has not been employed at the Inglewood Police Department for about a month. No further details were provided regarding the nature of his departure.

This is just another black eye for the department which has recently come under fire amid allegations that its officers routinely use excessive force and shoot unarmed suspects.
