KTLA reports that two men were arrested yesterday off the coast of Imperial Beach for attempting to smuggle marijuana into the United States ….on a surfboard.
The two men, ages 27 and 30, were spotted Friday about 200 yards offshore just north of the U.S.-Mexico border by Customs and Border Protection.
A helicopter was dispatched to track the men who were on surfboards and towing a third surfboard behind them. The third surfboard had 141 pounds of marijuana strapped to it with duct tape.
The two men were illegal immigrants from Mexico. No further identifying information was provided.
This is second incident this month in which a “surfer” attempted to smuggle marijuana into the U.S. on a surfboard.
