The Orange County Register reports that 29 children or minors were rounded up and detained as part of curfew enforcement sweep conducted by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Orange Police Department. The curfew enforcement sweep was part of coordinated effort to enforce a city curfew ordinance banning children from being out of their homes unaccompanied by an adult from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The curfew enforcement sweep focused primarily on The Block at Orange and two gang-injuction safety zones. No one was charged in the incident, but minors detained were taken to police headquarters until they were picked up by their parents.
Before leaving, both parent and child had to meet with a deputy district attorney and a member from the Orange County Probation Department to discuss the curfew violation and any potential legal consequences which could include misdemeanor charges with penalties of up to six months in jail for the parent or juvenile detention for the child.
