Manhattan Beach Police Accused of Cover Up

by Gabriel Dorman on February 13, 2010

Four Manhattan Beach Police officers are under investigation for allegedly covering up a hit-and-run crash involving a car registered to a fellow officer. The four Manhattan Beach officers were placed on leave while the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigates the cover up allegations.

The Manhattan Beach Police cover up investigations stem from a January 31 three car hit-and-run accident that occurred on Sepulveda Boulevard, north of Manhattan Beach Boulevard.

When the four Manhattan Beach police officers arrived on scene, the driver who caused the hit-and-run crash had already fled the scene of the accident. They soon found the driver’s unoccupied vehicle at a nearby Arco Station.

When the officers ran the registration on the car, they realized that the car was registered to a fellow Manhattan Beach police officer. None of the officers took a report or made an arrest.

Paramedics responded to the scene of the hit-and-run crash and treated all parties that complained of pain. No one needed to be hospitalized.

Manhattan Beach Police Chief Rod Uyeda stated that he had “grave concerns about decisions that were made by police officers involved in the investigation of the collision” which he learned of the next day.

The names of the four Manhattan Beach police officers have not been released.
