The Long Beach Press Telegram reports that a county wide gang enforcement sweep (aka gang raid) resulted in 35 arrests and the seizure of guns and drugs.
Approximately 150 officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles County Probation Department and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation descended on approximately 90 locations throughout Long Beach in an effort to curb a recent spike in gang violence in which 30 of 53 shootings from April 1 through May 17 have been confirmed as gang-related.
The operation, which began at 5 a.m. at Long Beach Police Department Headquarters. resulted in 35 suspects being taken into custody. In addition, six guns were seized along with marijuana plants and methamphetamine resulting in a number of arrests for drug possession and possession for sale of drugs.
