The Los Angeles Times reports that a former Huntington Park Police Officer was convicted on Tuesday of conspiring to steal drugs from drug dealers, extortion, and filing a false tax return by a federal court jury.
Sgt. Alvaro Murillo, who was once assigned to a federal drug trafficking task force, was found guilty of orchestrating the theft of 5 kilos of cocaine in 2002 and 4 pounds of methamphetamine in 2006 and further attempting to steal cocaine from an undercover Drug Enforcement agent who was posing as a drug dealer.
Murillo, 45, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison when he returns to court for his sentencing on August 10.
