The Orange County Register reports that a woman was sentenced to prison last Friday for driving under the influence of drugs.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Thomas Goethals sentenced Amika Sergejev to nine years and eight months in prison for causing the death of Lee Naeng when she ran her car through a red light while under the influence of methamphetamine going 93 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Sergejev pleaded guilty in March to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing bodily injurty. Naeng’s family has urged the court to impose a lengthy prison sentence and said they will never forgive Sergejev.

Orange County Deputy Distict Attorney Jason Baez had asked the court to impose a sentence of 13 years, eight months arguing that the facts of this case were as “egregious as it gets.”
