Orange County Drunk Driving Arrests Up Over Memorial Day Weekend!

by Gabriel Dorman on May 26, 2009

The Orange County Register reports that DUI or drunk driving arrests were up slightly in Orange County from last years statistics during the 60 hour Memorial Day Weekend.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 53 drivers were arrested for drunk driving in Orange County as opposed to 48 in 2008. All told, nearly 1,296 drunk driving arrests were made across the state of California, five fewer than in 2008.

Sadly, four traffic-related deaths were reported in Orange County this weekend, one of which alcohol is believed to have been a factor. In that case, a van driven by Jose Hernandezdiaz, 53, of Santa Ana crashed into a light pole just before 2 a.m. Saturday at Knott Street and Stanford Avenue in Garden Grove.
