The Orange County Register reports that Milad Moulayi, the Tustin teen driver convicted of second degree murder in the fatal DUI crash that killed his 16-year-old classmate Mackenzie Frazee, was sentenced today to 15 years to life in prison. The 15 year to life sentence was imposed upon the teen driver after the court considered statements from parents of both Mackenzie Frazee and Milad Moulayi.
Before sentencing the teen DUI driver, Orange County Superior Court Judge Carla Singer told Moulayi that he committed a “brutal and violent crime, knowing and understanding that you were not supposed to drive.” Judge Singer was referring to evidence presented during the trial that Milad Moulayi was warned by a juvenile court judge just hours prior to the fatal DUI crash that driving a car carried “an intense amount of responsibility.”
On August 28, 2008, Milad Moulayi, left a small party at his parents house to take home Mackenzie Frazee, a classmate at Foothill High School, when he lost control of the Mercedes he was driving while speeding down Newport Ave. at more than 100 mph and crashed. The force of the impact cut the car in two as it slammed into a concrete lamppost. Mackenzie Frazee died as a result of severe blunt-force trauma.
Before being sentenced to 15 years to life, Milad Moulayi made a statement to the court apologizing and asking the Frazee family for forgiveness.
“I am so sorry for my actions that night,” Moulayi said. “Please find it in your hearts to forgive me. I have already asked God to forgiveness, and with your help and his, perhaps I can begin to forgive myself.”
