Los Angeles DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for December 19, 2009

A DUI checkpoint is scheduled for Saturday December 19, 2009 in Los Angeles. The DUI checkpoint will be conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department – Valley Traffic Division and will run from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of Vineland Boulevard near Vanowen Street in Los Angeles, California.

The purpose of this Los Angeles Valley DUI checkpoint will be to reduce the number of DUI-related collisions and deaths and DUI hit and run collisions in this location known as the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles. According to Valley Traffic Division Commander Phillip Trotter, “as of November 14, 2009, the North Hollywood Area has endured over 162 DUI related collisions, a 10% increase from the previous year.”

The Valley DUI checkpoint scheduled in Los Angeles on December 19, 2009, will be one of the first of some 300 DUI checkpoints scheduled to take place during a statewide 18 Day Holiday DUI Crackdown Campaign. California’s DUI enforcement campaign is also part of a national DUI crackdown effort is set to officially kick off on tomorrow, December 16, 2009. California is so dedicated to the DUI checkpoint as a means to combat the problems surrounding drunk driving that it has declared 2010 as “The Year of the Checkpoint.”
