The Los Angeles Times reports that DUI or drunk driving arrests were down slightly in Los Angeles County from last years statistics during the 60 hour Memorial Day Weekend.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 220 drivers were arrested for drunk driving in Los Angeles County which is 16 fewer than in 2008. All told, nearly 1,300 drunk driving arrests were made across the state of California, five fewer than in 2008.
Sadly, traffic death across the state were up sharply from 2008′s figures. 31 people were killed in traffic accidents with 10 of those deaths occurring in Los Angeles County. This is a big increase from last year in which 19 deaths were reported statewide with only 1 in L.A. County.
FYI: It is important to note that these DUI statistics do not include drunk driving arrests made by city police departments.
