The Orange County Register reports that the driver that lost control of his truck and crashed into a tree, killing two teenage passengers, was arrested after being released from UCI Medical Center.
Jared Berggren, 19, was arrested for two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter and one count of felony drunken driving, with a sentencing enhancement for causing great bodily injury.
The accident occurred early Monday morning at 2:30 a.m. Sgt. Mike MacDonald of the Fullerton Police Department said the Berggren was speeding in the 2006 Toyota Tacoma when he lost control of the truck which started to skid, went off the road, then flew up a hill and stuck a tree. The top of the truck was sheered off by the impact and the two passengers, Jacquelyn A. Ardalan, 19, of La Habra, and Miles A. Christensen, 19, of Fullerton were ejected from truck.
Police investigators found evidence that the teens may have been drinking on a cul-de-sac Coyote Hills Drive where officers later found beer cans.
Berggren was booked and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
