The Los Angeles District Attorney and the Humane Society of the United States are joining forces in an effort to stop dog fighting. Tomorrow, Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley is set to announce a first ever dog fighting tip line and reward program.
The new 24-hour dog fighting tip line and reward program will allow people to anonymously report incidents of dog fighting and potentially collect up to $5,000 for information leading to a dog fighting arrest and/or conviction. The announcement for the 24-hour dog fighting tip line and reward program is scheduled for Tuesday outside the Criminal Courts Building in downtown Los Angeles.
Dog fighting in Los Angeles is a felony criminal offense that carries with it a potential three year prison sentence. As a matter of fact, even watching a dog fight or helping to set up a dog fight is a misdemeanor criminal offense with a potential sentence of six months in Los Angeles County Jal.
The first-of-its-kind 24-hour dog fighting tip line and reward program will be staffed by people who speak both English and Spanish.
