Russell Otis, the former basketball coach at Dominguez High School, was found guilty of misdemeanor child molestation today. However, on the more serious felony sex charge of meeting for a lewd purpose, the jury deadlocked 10-2 in favor of guilty and further found Otis not guilty of felony grand theft and forgery charges.
The former Dominguez High School basketball coach was on trial for allegedly arranging a meeting with a former player and making sexual advances toward her. In addition, prosecutors alleged that Russell Otis committing theft by depositing a $15,000 check from Nike into a personal account even though the check was written to the Compton Unified School District.
After the verdicts were read, the court set a hearing for December 1 at which time prosecutors are supposed to decide whether they will retry the former Dominguez High School basketball coach on the felony sex charge. A sentencing date for Russell Otis has not been set at this time.
