TMZ reports another celebrity DUI. This time it was Jeffrey Donovan, star of the hit TV show Burn Notice on USA Network, was arrested for a DUI in Miami Beach last Sunday, July 12. Let’s just say Donovan’s DUI arrest wasn’t exactly a lesson on how to handle a drunk driving stop.
According to police reports from the Miami Beach Police Department, Donovan was stopped for DUI after police first heard “a loud tire screech behind” him and then saw Donovan’s car swerve left to avoid hitting the police car.
After executing the DUI stop, Donovan told the police officer Donovan reportedly told the police officer “sorry, I didn’t see the red light or your stopped car.”
Upon smelling the strong odor of alcohol on Donovan and asked if he had anything to drink. According to the officer, the Burn Notice star stated “I had three drinks at the Fontainebleau.”
Donovan was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested and taken into custody for DUI. This is when Donovan decided to get really chatty with the cop.
According to the officer, Burn Notice’s Donovan made the following statements during the course of his DUI arrest:
- “The only mistake I made tonight was drinking Benadryl with 3 glasses of wine.”
- “I really think I’m only borderline and not too drunk.”
Assuming the police reports are accurate, the Burn Notice Star’s DUI arrest is a good example of what NOT to do during a DUI as Donovan made a number of mistakes that will only serve to hurt his case and make it more difficult for him to avoid a DUI conviction.
