The Los Angeles Times reports that John McTiernan, a hollywood film director with such big-time credits to his name as the action-thriller “Die Hard”, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of perjury and making false statements to federal agents stemming from the Anthony Pellicano case.

Three years ago, McTiernan pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in connection with the Pellicano investigation. (Pellicano was convicted last year of illegally wiretapping producer Charles Roven on McTiernan’s behalf.) At the time, McTiernan was one of seven people to plead guilty. However, before his sentencing, McTiernan made a motion to withdraw his plea on the grounds that his criminal defense attorney gave him bad advice and he never would have plead guilty otherwise.

The Judge denied the request, but McTiernan file an appeal with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals which held that the lower court should re-consider McTiernan’s request. McTiernan was eventually allowed to withdraw his plea when the U.S. Attorney’s office did not oppose the request.

On Friday, a federal grand jury handed down an indictment that includes both the two counts of lying to federal agents to which McTiernan originally plead guilty, as well as, a new charge of lying in a court proceeding …the one in which he sought to withdraw his plea.
