TMZ reports that Howard K. Stern, Anna Nicole Smith’s lawyer and BFF, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court today for his arraignment on charges that he conspired to furnish her with drugs.
Specifically, Stern is charged with 1) unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance and 2) prescribing, administering or dispensing a controlled substance to an addict. The complaint alleges that between July 2004 and January 2007, Stern, along with two other doctors conspired to furnish Anna Nicole Smith with pills to fuel her addiction.
Stern’s arraignment was continued to May 13. Stern has declared his absolute innocence and has vowed to fight this case to the bitter end. Stern’s criminal defense lawyer, Steve Sadow, declared his client’s position in a statement made to reporters outside court. Sadow said “[Howard] is innocent. Let me repeat that, he is innocent.” Sadow further chastised California Attorney General Jerry Brown, accusing him of using the fame of Anna Nicole Smith to further his career.
